Scaredy Cat Banner & Layout - DTC #84...

Welcome to my first post as a Design Team member of the Decorate to Celebrate Blog.

The DTC Blog is: 

A challenge blog dedicated to showing off your decorations for every celebration.

So, since Halloween is fast approaching, I've decided to make a banner that can be displayed for a Halloween party at your house or even a child's classroom (if your school has parties to celebrate Halloween).  I will also show how you dismantle this beauty and use on your scrapbook layouts of the event(s).

Cut you a bunch of varying widths and lengths of B&T (mine vary from 1-1/2" to 2" wide and right at 2-3" when folded over...the paper I'm using here is Scaredy Cat from CTMH.

Next....cut the strips in different patterns  - dovetail, scallop, etc.

Here are some close-ups of the actual pennants...I used baker's twine to thread the pennants and my sewing machine to keep them stationary...you can decorate each pennant using stamps, embellishments, chipboard, etc.  I used Scaredy Cat Complements...and sometimes the B&T paper served as enough of an embellishment...like the pennant on the right "Smell my feet.  Give me something good to eat!"...perfect!!!

The haunted house is actually a pattern on the B&T so I didn't have to do a think for this pennant.  If you notice, I did not worry about which pennants would be facing forward (in case you were to hang it where it goes back and forth as I did) but I kinda like the messiness of the backside of my stitching.

Use mini-staples from the Mini-Stapler to create a SUPER QUICK decoration!  The bats come from a zip-strip off of one of the B&T pieces.

This project, literally, took me all of about 45 minutes and that was with cutting all the pieces, threading the baker's twine, sewing and decorating the pennants.  SUPER easy project to use to decorate your next party!

Fabulous Together - Favorite Technique H2H...

This week at H2H, we're asking you to show us your favorite technique!

I used Seaside Paper packet, Cricut Artbooking Cartridge and #30YearsOfHappy Stamp Set.

If you're a follower of my blog, you know that I have several techniques that I use over and over again.  This card actually uses several...

I {{{love}}} sewing on my projects...and using scraps from my Cricut cuts!  Remember {{{this layout}}}...these are scraps from cutting all those hexagons...and what better way to attach it to my card front than sewing...especially when you have such tiny spaces to glue!

We've got layering using Thin 3D-Foam Tape...LOVE the dimension of layering heights...a technique I use quite often!

And my FAVORITE technique is ink distressing!!!  Can you see the subtle Desert Sand color around every little piece of this card!  My tool of the trade is Sponge Daubers but I also occasionally use a Round Sponge which I quarter to make it last longer.

And finally...groupings of three - I think the technique is actually called the rule of odds and my odd number is usually 3...you can see it everywhere in this card.  Sometimes my rule is 3 on the entire project and sometimes, as in this card, it's tiny groupings of 3 here and there.  Even thought the tiny Silver Sequin actually is a 4th element, it plays second seat to the two stamped arrows and the "sweet" so my mind doesn't even see it...lol...crazy, I know!

And I guess decorating the inside of my cards can be a technique...I ALWAYS do it!!!  This one is as simple as using the zip-strip from one of the Seaside B&T pieces and a stamped image from #30YearsOfHappy

Decorate to Celebrate DT...

I'm excited to announce that I am a NEW member of the the Decorate to Celebrate Design Team!!!

DTC has wonderful challenges geared toward decorating and celebrations AND there's always a prize up for grabs!!!!

Relax and Stay Awhile - #30YearsOfHappy...

I just LOVE this picture of my husband and my baby girl!!!

He was on his iPad and she came up to him, put her arm around his neck and her head on his shoulder then proceeded to watch TV...I was able to capture the moment with my cell phone. 

I used the #30YearsOfHappy stamp set to fill in some of the hexagons...good thing about this stamp set is that there were plenty of sentiments and icons to choose from.

I used a couple of paper packets...but the only current one is Seaside and I love the calming colors of this paper...and added some Gold Shimmer Trim and Sequins
